Happy New Year
Central Texas Martial Arts 2010

Hello and Happy New Years for a second time as we welcome the year of the Tiger. I hope you had a great holiday and are ready for another New Year celebration! Chinese New Year’s and Valentine’s Day both fall on the same day – Sunday, February 14, 2010.  We will have our party on Friday, February 12th at 4 p.m.

Next Monday, January 18th is Martin Luther King Day and the kids will be out of school. We will be open for the after school pick-up kids at no additional charge. We will be offering a day camp to other students for $30 from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.   Please let Sifu know if you are interested as there is limited space.

On Thursday Night, January 28, 2010 at 6 p.m., we will be having our Winter Belt Celebration at 6 p.m. at the Kung Fu School. We will be reviewing testing over the next few days and will begin testing on January 20th.

Over this semester we will continue to concentrate on two themes - one being respect & the other consideration. We have talked many times about responsibility over this first semester and will continue to talk about this subject and the other two for the remainder of the year. By putting a bit of pressure on each child to take responsibility for their uniform, holding them to be responsible for being respectful to others, and challenging them to do things that demonstrate consideration will help then to make better choices in life after taking time to think!

Attention Campers

We are signing up campers for the Spring Break Camp to be held on March 15th – 19th.  This camp is limited to the first 12 to enroll.

Don’t look now but we will be in Summer Camp before you know it starting June 1st and that is only 140 days away!

Some Important Changes

The pick up of after school students has always been 6 p.m.  I realize that there are unforeseen exceptions due to weather, traffic, etc.  In the past we have not said much about late pick ups or late payments, however as of February we are placing into effect some late charges.

Our lease is due on the 5th of each month and we simply must ask that you help us to accomplish this by paying by the 4th of the month.  A $5 late fee will be due in addition to your regular tuition payments received between the 6th –10th of the month and a $20 late fee for payments after the 10th of each month.

As for the 6 p.m. pickup time, we will extend a once a month grace day for you up to 6:15 p.m. After that, there will be a $5 / per each 15 minute period you are late. For instance if you have used your grace day and you get to the school at 6:28 p.m. a second time the fee would be $10; get here at 6:40 p.m. the late fee is $15.

Lion Dancing

We are going to expand to 5 Lions this year and we will be working on having everyone learning all of the positions of the Lion Dance Troop. I am very excited about this and we will be sending you some pictures of your child that will be suitable for framing!

I hope you each have a great 2010 and I feel the best is yet to come!

March 2009 Newsletter

Spots are filling fast for Spring Break Camp and I suspect as soon as I put the Spring Break Camp sign put the rest of the spots will fill quickly.

Summer Camp registration is underway!

We are doing a demo at the Brushy Creek Community Center on Saturday MARCH 7 at 1PM. Not to stress anyone out: I am looking for volunteers to be part of this performance. We want to include Lion Dancers – Dragon Dancers – and Kung Fu Forms. Give me a shout if you or your child will be part of the action!

We have so many things on tap like the Brushy Creek Elementary School Carnival, the State AAU Kung Fu Championships June 26 in South Padre Island, and the National Championships here in Round Rock August 22.

Keep looking at the web page for updates. If your school, church, or organization is looking for exhibitors or demonstrations, please have them contact us.

Our new belt testing requirements puts those with behavior problems on notice. During each six week period you get three strikes for each “out” and after “three outs” you loose your chance to take the belt or stripe test you are up for during that period. Now this really is for our K- 5 graders we have a few that we are working on etiquette for talk and play.

Kung Fu does not use as much of the military barking out yes sir approach has karate or tae kwon Do does, but relies of the development of Wu De (virtuous living) we try to have our student show mutual respect of everyone not just barking like  little soldiers. We continue to relay to the kids that life is about choices “make good ones and get more privileges” make bad ones and live with the consequences.

For our Tai Chi students we have World Tai Chi Day approaching I hope you will join us and all of the greater Austin fine instructors and schools celebrate on April 25 at 9 AM on Auditorium Shores (Riverside & S First St) to celebrate with the millions across the world celebrate this wonderful way to better health and relaxation.

That’s it for now…
